Governor Rick Perry, along with the Texas State legislature are fed up with the Obama immigrant crisis.
And they’re done waiting around.
Perry, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and House Speaker Joe Straus agreed on a plan to spend $1.3 million a week combating the swarm of illegals coming across the border. The surge in illegals has escalated on rumors President Obama has an open door policy for illegal children.
“Texas can’t afford to wait for Washington to act on this crisis and we will not sit idly by while the safety and security of our citizens are threatened,” Perry said in a statement. “Until the federal government recognizes the danger it’s putting our citizens in by its inaction to secure the border, Texas law enforcement must do everything they can to keep our citizens and communities safe.”
And even health officials see a refugee-like crisis escalating. From The Daily Telegraph:
*Border control agents fear a spread of disease.
*Federal facilities have become overloaded and children have been transported to a makeshift housing center in Nogales, Arizona.
*Border control agents have had a rabies outbreak and fear a host of new ailments could be imminent.
After tempting this crisis with extension of The Dream Act before the 2012 election, and an Attorney General that has constantly put pressure on states to let illegals be; Obama has mostly turned his back on the plight of border states with yet another upcoming election cycle this fall.
And the numbers are staggering:
The number of illegal immigrants is so high that the Border Patrol can barely cope. From last October to the end of May, 162,000 people from countries “other than Mexico” have entered the United States across the southern border. That’s a nearly 100 percent increase from the previous year.
But Texas officials are not waiting, with some going to survey the problem first-hand:
“This is a big deal,” said state Rep. Jonathan Stickland, R-Bedford, who plans to head to the border next week. “We can’t wait for this. It has to be done right and it has to be done now.”
More to come…
